Measure: Increase Mooring Fee for the 2024 Boating Season (item #9)

In 2010, the Town’s mooring was increased to $100 and then to $135 in 2011. In 2013, due to a surplus of funds, it was reduced to $75 and has not been changed since. In the meantime the consumer price index has increased by 30 percent in that time and the Town’s mooring fee has not kept pace. The current fee of $75 is lower than what is charged in many of Greenwich’s neighboring municipalities in both Fairfield and Westchester Counties.
The Harbor Management Commission had projected that an increase of the mooring fee from $75 to $100 would be enough to cover a potential budget shortfall in 2024 and allow the Commission and the Harbormaster to continue to execute the goals of the Town of Greenwich’s Harbor Master Plan. The increase in fees is projected to be able to cover the cost of retaining support personnel for the Commission, maintain an emergency fund to be able to react with immediacy to a potential need and cover the cost of locating and removing abandoned moorings and other potential safety hazards to boaters and swimmers in Greenwich’s waters.
